Drink Up, Sweet Cub.

(Word count: 134)

In the warmth of her den,

On a crisp winter night,

Mama wakes from deep sleep

To her new baby cub,

Who latches on just right.

“Drink up, Sweet Cub. Spring is on its way.”

Cub drinks all day long.

Cub drinks all night too.

For a hairless blind cub,

There isn’t much else to do.

But soon cub grows fur,

And gets stronger each day.

“Drink up, Sweet Cub. Spring is just weeks away.”

Mama dozes on and off

Never eating a single bite.

But soon the snow melts and clouds give way to a warm spring light.

“It's time,” Mama says, "Let's not delay."

“Drink up, Sweet Cub, it’s time to go out and play”.

One paw at a time,

Cub climbs out of the den.

With Mama right by his side

They welcome spring in.
